Tony Banks Wins First Race for 2012

The Grafton Cycle Club is just two weeks short of 120 yrs old and going strongly. The Club was formed at a public meeting on 26th January 1892 where a Committee was formed and racing organised. Over the years there have been many riders distinguish themselves at State and National levels, and even a few at international level. The Club would be interested to hear from family and friends who may have information from by-gone eras including photos.

Bicycle racing was available to everyone. No specialist equipment was needed. Since bicycles were the chief mode of transport people turned up on their everyday steed, rolled up the trousers and went elbow to elbow with friends and adversaries.

10 Dec 2011 – Grafton Cycle Club Race Report

Under threatening skies, Matt White won the summer handicap race at Trenayr on Saturday. To achieve the result Matt had to catch Andrew Weatherstone and hold off a fast-finishing Dion Wilkes having surged away from his fellow “Chopping Block” bunch on the run back up to the line.

3 Dec 2011 – Grafton Cycle Club Race Report

In a remarkable day of road cycle racing, it was Patrick Brennan who kicked away from Ian Lavery in the final few hundred metres to take a great win. Patrick rode off the 4’45” mark with Kelsey Wilkes, Anita Salvestro, Mal Tilse, Martin Howard, Michael Harding, Rhonda Thew, Scott Lenton and Stuart McPherson.
